About Me

Hello:

I am pleased to give you a bit about my background. For full detailed information, however, you can click on my resume. I am a past lawyer who has been teaching special education, early childhood, and elementary school for over 20 years. Local schools I have taught/substituted/volunteered in are: Plymouth Preschool, Stephen’s Episcopal Day School, Riviera Day School, Sunset Elementary School, and St. Philip’s Episcopal Day School (when my own children were younger, I only volunteered and substituted). I have tutored children from all of these schools, and many more, so I am aware of the curriculum requirements.

I have been tutoring and providing enrichment* classes in my home full time since 2006. I live only a few blocks away from Riviera Day School, Sunset Elementary School, and the famous Whip ‘N Dip ice cream shop. My actual address is 7645 SW 52 Ct., Miami, 33143. My cell phone number is 786-303-9349 (but email is best because I do not answer the phone when I am with students or I am preparing for students). If I am not out of town, I am very good about returning my emails within 24 hours, usually faster.

If you think your child would benefit from a regular spot during the school year, I will forward you my schedule as it stands to date and you can find times/dates that meet with your family’s schedule. Please note that ALL SCHEDULING MUST BE DONE VIA EMAIL.

If you would like to schedule tutoring now and then, I do have a waiting list. Because I have a 24 hour cancellation policy, the waiting list is informed in a group email of any openings that occur periodically due to regular students' illnesses, travel plans, etc. Should you later want to secure a regular tutoring spot, I offer the openings to the waiting list first. Both for a regular student spot, as well as for spots that occur now and then, I take students on a "first come, first serve" basis. Specifically, the first to respond to the group email is the first to secure the spot.

Additionally, I am wide open during the school day for students who are home schooled. I have had various home schooled/homebound students in the past.

As far as payment, tutoring fees are per hour. However, I schedule an hour and 15 minutes for each student in order to conference with the parent 15 minutes afterwards about what we have done, where we are going, and suggestions for follow up. I do not charge for the additional 15 minutes, but I consider it as a vital, integral part to best help your child grow. If your child comes more than once a week, payment is made on the first day s/he sees me that week. I have a strict cancellation policy and that, as well as details on fees, are detailed on the schedule I will forward you upon your request for the same.

Thank you for your consideration.

*Many of my students come for enrichment purposes only. The sky is the limit for these classes. It totally depends upon what the parent thinks their child might be interested in pursuing. Once we get started, it evolves naturally from there. For example, one of my students was into rock collecting. So…we read LOTS of books about rock collecting, we sorted the rocks he found, AND then he wrote a science-fiction story about his imaginary adventures collecting rocks near Kilauea, a volcano in Hawaii.

Several students have worked on publishing their stories into books (including illustrating them by looking at other illustrators/artists for ideas). Others come to learn about various artists or composers... reading about them and then attempting to do artwork similar to the artist. Some are bored in school, so we accelerate their learning according to their desires (e.g. a first grader began learning his times tables, as well as division). Many children come to read more than they would otherwise read in school (and at higher levels).

By now, you get the idea. The bottom line is that enrichment is fun!
